Problems with the Regulation of Diabetes Mellitus

If the response to insulin therapy is poor, a blood glucose curve should be made and every effort plotted to rule out other concurrent or underlying disorders.

Factors thought to contribute to a poor response to insulin treatment:

  1. Incorrect storage of insulin or poor injection technique
  2. Antibodies
  3. Insulin resistance
  4. Somogyi effect
  5. Rapid metabolism of insulin
